This course presents theories and concepts of clinical decision making and diagnosis and reviews a variety of systemic conditions across the life span with an emphasis placed on areas most pertinent to physical therapy. The clinical manifestations, screening examination(s), therapeutic management and relevance to physical therapy practice are addressed. Relevant laboratory values and diagnostic tests are included. Focus is placed on differential diagnosis of systemic disorders that mimic musculoskeletal dysfunction. Through lecture, discussion, review of the literature, case studies and clinical decision making, students gain an understanding of how various diseases impact all areas of patient/client management. Clinical experiences are integrated into this course.
